September 1, 2011
For Arts Night Out this September, we're excited to feature jewelry designers Katie deGuzman and Michael Miller of K/LLER COLLECTION.
We had the opportunity to ask them a few questions:
How did you get started?
We met in 2000 at Parson’s in NYC where we both majored in furniture design. After graduation we trailed each other in our careers throughout the jewelry industry and other sundry projects. In 2010 we had both left our jobs and decided to come together to create K/LLER COLLECTION. We did a pop-up shop in SoHo which sparked interest in other NYC boutiques and we’ve been going strong ever since!
What do you love about your job?
We love being able to work for ourselves, being in control of our destiny, doing what we love and working with our hands on a daily basis.
If you weren't doing this, you would be...
Kd: a private investigator or a dentist (same tools).
MM: I’d be digging up dinosaur bones.
What's your go-to "happy" song?
MM: “All My Friends” by LCD Soundsystem
Kd: “Home” Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
What is your least favorite board game?
Kd and MM: RISK. It makes us cry and break out in rashes!
What super power would you choose?
When was the last time you laughed so hard you cried?
We laugh to tears A LOT from finding dropped tomato slices in our handbag, broken airplane seats on redeye flights, falling asleep with pretzels in our mouth, and watching Katie fulfill her life time dream of meeting and hugging Carrot Top.
A photo that inspires you:
We are inspired by this image not just because we love vintage antlers and skulls, but also because the lines that are made by the antlers in the image, it really captures the essence of the current collection and the forms we are creating with the jewelry on the body.
