Artist Interview

Liz Sandler

September 11, 2014

If there was a Liz Sandler-inspired coverband, all the members would sport luxurious red hair, wear stripes and polka-dots at the same time, and sing "She's Crafty," "Foxy Lady," and "The Sweater Song." They'd call themselves All Things Liz and, the it would be a mega-sensation. Deceptively sweet, Liz Sandler has a knife-sharp wit and a devious sense of humor and everything she makes--from songs to stick-sweaters--are executed with those perfect juxtaposing elements. Come join our All Things Liz fan-club and shop Liz Sandler's woven goods on Friday, September 12th, 6-8pm.

What’s your spirit plant?
Sensitive plant (Mimosa pudica).

If you could yarn-bomb anything in the world, what would it be?
I’d yarn bomb enough rocks and pebbles to cover an entire beach somewhere. Ideally, the yarn would be made of some kind of magical fiber that cleans oceans.

Go-to dance move?
If I had to give it a name it would be, “ The Awkward Shoulders”.

You are a tall drink of what?
Ginger Libation

What’s your favorite holiday and why?
Halloween is my favorite because I love crafts and costumes, and it’s kind of the only time of year I feel like I’m not the only one excited about those things.

What inspires you to create? I like to think about making people happy, and creating a positive experience with things that I make. Even if the object doesn’t attract much attention, if it puts someone in a slightly better mood to be around it, that’s a little amazing.

What YouTube video makes you the happiest?
At the moment, this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxPbgnO81sQ

A photo of something that inspires me:
This is a photo of me with a robot soldier sculpture at the Ghibli Museum in Japan. The museum describes itself as a “portal to a storybook world”, and it really is a magical place that celebrates creativity and imagination.
